Traktape quickly and accurately track and manage large numbers of packages
RFID ( Radio Frequency Identification ) is the latest technology that will track goods and packages. The new technology promises to speed deliveries, update record data in real-time, and accommodate re-routing requests on-the fly.
RFID Technology incorporates an ultra-thin transponder chip ( inlay ) containing integrated circuitry. The RFID inlay, developed by Texas Instruments ( and others ), can be updated at any time, unlike barcodes which store only static information. The new technology will enable warehouse and plant personnel to simultaneously count and identify packages rapidly and without error. Transponder inlays require no batteries as it draws its energy along with information in the form of low power radio waves from the read/write module.
*Traktape, developed by Traktape Technologies integrates Texas Instruments technology into its carton sealing tape products. In one motion, the shipper can seal a package quickly and create a secure, intelligent entity with read and write capabilities.
VALUE TO SHIPPERS
Barcodes in its existing state of technology are not dynamic carriers of information. In barcodes, information cannot be updated as it travels from shipper to receiver. Traktape with RFID technology will enable a package to be automated in real-time so that they may be read in large volume, rapidly without errors or orientation, thus improving inventory management and more precise and prompt deliveries. Its advanced read/write capability is incorporated within its transponder.
The system operator may program application specific data e.g.; delivery checkpoints, pallet assignments, origins/destinations, and inventory management.
IMMEDIATE AND SIMULTANEOUS IDENTIFICATION
Barcodes require line-of-site in order to read the information. Traktape may be updated on-the-fly and simultaneous identification is accomplished. Multiple Items do not require singulization or orientation. Items do not have to be physically separated to be individually read. This is a time-saving advantage when shipping or maintaining inventory in large volumes. Each transponder inlay is pre-programmed with its own unique ID code at the factory, making it impossible to replicate. Security is also achieved in this manner.
Innovation in Tape Technology
Traktape is systems oriented. As is with bar-coding technology, to utilize the new RFID system, there are necessary equipment requirements. The initial requirement is in the transponder inlay application. Traktape Technologies has developed its reinforced gummed paper or polypropylene carton sealing tape specifically for this application ( Traktape ).
The shipper can apply Traktape to effectively seal the packageand simultaneously apply the transponder inlay, which is located invisibly within the layers of paper or polypropylene. For additional security, the inlay cannot be seen or removed from the package. Traktape may be easily applied using a tape dispenser especially designed to electronically align Traktape prior to application.
Once Traktape is applied, the package is simultaneously sealed and made intelligent.
Since the transponder inlay within Traktape can be read or written to, an electronic Commander apparatus is used to communicate information to or from the Traktape package. This can be accomplished even if the package is moving. Line of sight is unnecessary. A reading station is also required to allow the package to pass by and communicate with the Commander. The Commander uses digital protocol to transmit a request signal to the transponder inlay and receive its response, initiating a two-way data exchange. The Commander can serially identify numerous transponders in its antenna field so rapidly that the identifications appear as being simultaneous.
This data collected from the transponder inlays can be sent to a host computer through standard interfaces and may be saved for uploading at a later time.
